Have you ever heard of the Paleo diet? This food modality has become very popular in recent years, although it has its origin in a book published in the 70s by the gastroenterologist Walter L. Voegtlin. The term Paleo Diet is a diminutive of “paleolithic diet” also known as “caveman diet” and, as you can imagine due to its name, its principles are based on following a diet similar to that of our ancestors in the paleolithic era. The foods included are those that were used before the development of agriculture, including meat, fish, fruits, vegetables and roots. Therefore, it excludes legumes, dairy products, salt, sugars and processed oils, grains and so on. The premise that gave rise to this movement was the theory that today’s humans are genetically adapted to the diet used by our ancestors of the paleolithic era. However, despite its popularity this diet has many detractors, as the scientific community claims that humans have evolved since then. So that you can decide for yourselves, today we would like to share with you the benefits and disadvantages of the famous Paleo diet.
